In his address James thanked Jim Maloney and Cork Co. Council for their financial support, Blackwater Resources for their grant aid and all the local volunteers who had given so much time over the last number of months in preparing the playground and the community field. The cooperation received from so many groups in the parish was also acknowledged, including the soccer and GAA clubs, the parents assoc., FAS, Jim Ronayne Plant Hire, Vincent Dooley Plant Hire, Ballyvolane House, C&C and all who organised the many various events on the day. A special word of thanks to all the laddies who looked so voluptuous and provided us with a great hours fun & frolics. Some injuries were reported to Annabella (Donal) O’Brien and Debbie (Barry) Fitzgerald but some chest x-rays revealed nothing significant and coach Fr.Dan McCarthy said all the talk about players being on performance enhancing drugs was nothing more than a storm in a b-cup. After the trophy presentation to winning captain Peggy Joyce and runner-up Marietta O Flynn all retired to the post match reception where Ritz, Spritzers and West Coast Cooler was the order of the day. The day finished off with Jenny the Jersey cow completing a square in one and John Bourke was on hand to determine the winner. The €500 Poo in the Park competition was won by Maurice and Breda Barry-congrats, the many years of cow gazing by Maurice and Breda has paid off!!! Take a bow one and all for what was a very memorable day. Meal for two at Ballyvolane House (entry ticket) was won by Pat and Claire Quirke. Over €9,000 was raised.
